Society has been brainwashed into believing that success and status are measured by what we have and what we own. This myth has turned the economy into a ponzi scheme creating over consumption and waste that if continues unchecked will cause the economy to bleed the planet to death. The top 1% and the policy makers perpetuate this myth because they are the ones who are most invested in runaway ecomonic growth. They need us to behave and obey like good sheep so their share of the pie will grow in perpetuity. The truth is they use advertising to brainwash us into being consuming machines; also overconsuming sugar, alcohol, drugs and tv so we are too numb to see how much wool is pulled over our eyes.
